FTP with FileZilla

This is a brief guide on installing an FTP client and connecting to the Psyke.org FTP server.

Getting Started

Download FileZilla

  1. Go to http://filezilla.sourceforge.net. (Screenshot)
  2. Click ‘download’ in the menu on the left.
  3. Download the latest version of FileZilla (currently FileZilla_2_2_17_setup.exe). (Screenshot)
  4. Click the download icon beside the name of the site nearest to you. (Screenshot)
  5. Wait for the download to begin or click the link at the top of the page. (Screenshot)

Install FileZilla

  1. Run the installer you just downloaded.
  2. Choose installer language. (Screenshot)
  3. Accept the license agreement. (Screenshot)
  4. Select the ‘standard’ install type and click ‘next >’. (Screenshot)
  5. Select a destination folder and click ‘next >’. (Screenshot)
  6. Select start menu folder and click ‘next >’. (Screenshot)
  7. Read the instructions and choose the settings which are right for you. (Screenshot)
  8. Click ‘install’.
  9. If no problems occur, click ‘close’ to exit the installer. (Screenshot)

Configure FileZilla

  1. Run FileZilla.
  2. Click the ‘L’ and ‘Q’ buttons in the main toolbar to clean up the interface. (Screenshot)

Download Files

  1. Run FileZilla.
  2. Enter ‘ftp.psyke.org’, ‘anonymous’ and your e-mail address in the fields ‘Address’, ‘User’ and ‘Password’.
  3. Click ‘Quickconnect’.
  4. The files on the ftp.psyke.org server are shown in the right part of the window, the files on your own computer are shown in the left part of the window. (Screenshot)
  5. Double-click on the files you wish to download.
  6. Click ‘..’ to move up through the hieriachy of folders. (Screenshot)
  7. Click the ‘Q’ button in the toolbar to watch the progress of the downloads.

Upload Files

  1. Run FileZilla.
  2. Enter ‘ftp.psyke.org’, ‘anonymous’ and your e-mail address in the fields ‘Address’, ‘User’ and ‘Password’. (Screenshot)
  3. Click ‘Quickconnect’.
  4. The files on the ftp.psyke.org server are shown in the right part of the window, the files on your own computer are shown in the left part of the window.
  5. Open the directory ‘incoming’ by double-clicking on it.
  6. Right-click somewhere in the right part of the window and choose ‘Create Directory’ from the menu. (Screenshot)
  7. Enter the name you would like your content to appear under (or user a nickname and include your desired name in a textfile), click ‘OK’. (Screenshot, screenshot, screenshot)
  8. Open the directory you just created. (Screenshot)
  9. In the left pane, choose the files from your computer you wish to upload and double-click on them or drag them to the right pane. (Screenshot, screenshot)
