As I Stand by the Mirror

Copyright Theresa

As I stand by the mirror
on the medicine cabinet
The rage builds within me.
In my mind I see
The blade,
ready for taking
I pick it up, shaking,
hold it in position
And slice.
Not once, but twice
I cut to watch
the blood flow.
But its only a show
of what would have
been real
If I had let myself feel
the pain
as I used to,
too long ago.

The sky has broken, it tumbles to the ground.
My world ahs shattered and turned around.
Twist the knife deep in my heart
Watch as dreams are ripped apart.
See the pieces fall away
It has come: doomsday
I feel the knife in my hand and succumb to this final demand
