Slipping Away

Copyright, Draven

nicotine stains on her fingers
oozing with filth, covered with sickness
she shuffles in and out of routines
flowing with the slow rhythm of tortured breathing
cries for help turn into inarticulate moans
rising and falling in panic pitch
squeezing out sanity as with each drop of blood
leaving behind red-streaked rage and madness
apparent comfort in solitude, releasing inner tension
flooded with endless time, hours slide by horribly
then night falls, covers up the crimson sky
with impenetrable black water, another facade
life goes back to sweaty, sticky normalcy.
